Enterprise Account Executive Salary in 2026

By Charlie Simpson, Head of compensation researchLast updated: Figures on this page come from the named external sources below; this role is not in our own offer dataset.Methodology

The short answer

Enterprise account executives in tech earn a median base of $140,000 and median OTE of $280,000, according to RepVue's trailing-year salary reports (October 2026).

Glassdoor's cross-industry data shows a $240,000 median total pay with a base range of $96,000–$147,000 — directionally consistent once you account for total-versus-OTE and the cross-industry population. Salary.com's $101,527 average salary sits well below both, which is why we do not blend these sources.

Enterprise AE is the segment where pay steps up most sharply from the blended AE median: $280,000 against $200,000 OTE on RepVue. Deal size, cycle length and the scarcity of people who can run a nine-month enterprise evaluation all push the band up.

OTE is pay at 100% of quota, not observed earnings. Enterprise attainment is the most volatile of any segment because a single slipped deal moves the year.

Reported salary figures, by source

Every figure links to the source that published it. Sources differ in population, geography, date and whether variable pay is included, so the “What it measures” column matters as much as the figure. We do not blend these into an average of averages.

Why enterprise AE sources span $101,527 to $280,000

The spread looks alarming until you line up what each figure measures. Then it is mostly definition, not disagreement.

  • Salary.com measures a different population. Its $101,527 average is cross-industry and employer-reported, pooling tech enterprise AEs with capital-equipment and logistics roles that carry the same title at half the pay.
  • OTE is the plan, total pay is the outcome. RepVue's $280,000 is on-target earnings; Glassdoor's $240,000 is reported total pay. The gap between them is consistent with average attainment landing below 100% across the population.
  • Base ranges are wide by design. Glassdoor's $96,000–$147,000 base range reflects how much enterprise plans vary: a 50/50 plan at a high-growth vendor and a 70/30 plan at a mature one are both normal.

Enterprise AEs never sell alone

Every enterprise deal carries a technical evaluation, which means every enterprise AE works paired with a sales engineer — usually senior level and above. Our SE-to-AE ratio data shows enterprise motions running at one SE to one or two AEs, the densest coverage in sales. If you are costing an enterprise hire, the pre-sales headcount is part of the budget — see what a sales engineer costs.

Enterprise AE versus senior sales engineer pay

The two roles that run an enterprise deal together earn comparable OTE by different routes: the AE at $280,000 median OTE on a roughly 50/50 split, the senior sales engineer at a $238,710 median OTE on a much higher base. The full comparison, with the population caveats, is on our enterprise AE vs SE pay page.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an enterprise account executive make?

RepVue reports a median base of $140,000 and median OTE of $280,000 for US tech enterprise AEs (October 2026). Glassdoor shows a $240,000 median total pay across industries. OTE is pay at full quota, not guaranteed earnings.

Why do enterprise AEs earn so much more than other AEs?

Deal size and scarcity. Enterprise deals run into seven figures over nine-month cycles, and the pool of people who can run them is small. RepVue's medians show the step clearly: $200,000 OTE for the blended AE population against $280,000 for enterprise.

What is a typical enterprise AE base/OTE split?

The sourced medians imply a 50/50 split at target — $140,000 base against $280,000 OTE. Individual plans range from roughly 60/40 to 40/60 depending on company stage and deal size.
