Running the numbers

One AE adds one quota — a $960,000 median (The Bridge Group). One SE supports a median of $2,625,000 in our data. If an SE raises win rates on that supported quota by enough to exceed one AE's quota, the SE is the better hire. The full model is on the sales engineer to AE ratio page. If the answer is an SE, our sales engineer hiring page covers what comes next.

Frequently asked questions

Should I hire a sales engineer or another account executive?

Hire an SE when technical work, not pipeline, is what limits your AEs. Hire an AE when pipeline is the constraint and your SEs have spare capacity.
